## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT IN COMMAND STATED THAT HE "STUPIDLY" LANDED DOWNWIND, AT DARK, ON THE SNOW COVERED, UNLIT RUNWAY, WHICH IS LOCATED IN A NARROW CANYON SURROUNDED BY HILLS. HE STATED THAT HE LANDED LONG, TOUCHED DOWN ABOUT MID FIELD ON THE 1300 FOOT RUNWAY, AND WAS NOT ABLE TO STOP PRIOR TO THE RUNWAY END. THE AIRPLANE CONTINUED OFF THE RUNWAY END, ENCOUNTERED ROUGH TERRAIN, FLIPPED OVER AND WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC05CA151](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC05CA151), Oct 1, 2005: Cessna 182 (N3569Y), Bethel, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's misjudged distance and speed, which resulted in an overrun and a nose over during the landing roll. A factor associated with the accident was the dusk lighting conditions.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
