## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON OCTOBER 2, 2005, N89B EXPERIENCED A SEPARATION OF THE R/H MAIN WHEEL ASSY AFTER INITIAL TOUCHDOWN AT 06NH, GRASS STRIP. AFTER BRINGING THE AIRCRAFT BACK UP FOR A SECOND, THE PILOT THEN TOUCHED DOWN A SECOND TIME, DIGGING THE R/H STRUT INTO THE GROUND, CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO GROUND LOOP TO THE RIGHT, WITH THE AIRCRAFT ENDING UP ON ITS NOSE, SEVERELY DAMAGING THE UPER LEFT WING AND PROPELLER. BOTH PILOTS ESCAPED WITHOUT SERIOUS INJURY. AFTER INSPECTING THE AIRCRAFT AND WHEEL ASSY, IT WAS SHOWN THAT THE WHEEL SPINDLE SEPARATED FROM THE STRUT MATING POINT AT THE WELD. THE SPINDLE/STRUT ASSY WAS RELEASED BY A/C OWNER TO THE FAA/NTSB. PARTS WERE SENT TO NTSB LAB IN WASHINGTON DC FOR ANALYSIS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)
