## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE STUDENT PILOT WAS ENDORSED TO SOLO AND WAS OUT PRACTICING TAKEOFS AND LANDINGS. AFTER SEVERAL TOUCH AND GOES THE PILOT ELECTED TO TRY A SOFT FIELD TAKEOFF FROM RUNWAY 21 AT IML. THE WINDS WERE CALM AND ON TAKEOFF ROLL, A GUST OF WIND CAUGHT THE RIGHT WING AT APPROXIMATELY 40-45 KNOTS AIRSPEED AND THE AIRCRAFT STARTED TO MOVE TO THE LEFT OF THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT AND SOLE OCCUPANT CLOSED THE THROTTLE AND STARTED BRAKING PROCEDURES. THE AIRCRAFT STARTED TO SLIDE AND WENT OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY AND INTO A FRESHLY PLOWED PORTION OF A FIELD. THE NOSE GEAR DUG INTO THE SOFT DIRT CAUSING IT TO SHEAR OFF. THE LEFT WING THEN IMPACTED A FENCE AND FENCE POST ON AN EMBANKMENT CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT. THE PILOT EXITED THE AIRCRAFT WITHOUT INJURY AND THEN HAD THE AIRCRAFT TOWED TO A HANGAR.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)
