## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) INSPECTORS STATEMENT: AIRCRAFT LANDING GEAR FAILED DURING HIGH SPEED TAXI CHECK. THE INTENT WAS TO CHECK ENGINE RPM @ 65 MPH, NOT TO FLY. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT ONE GEAR FAILED AT ABOUT 75 MPH AND THE OTHER AT ABOUT 100 MPH. THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK A RUNWAY LIGHT AND DAMAGED THE WING BEFORE COMING TO REST SEVERAL YARDS BEYOND THE END OF R/W 30. A WITNESS ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ AGREES WITH THE PILOT THAT THERE WASN'T AN INTENT TO FLY. IN THE ENCLOSED PHOTOGRAPHS IS A PICTURE OF THE LANDING GEAR SUPPORT BRACKET. IT APPEARS TO BE A LOW STRENGTH OPEN HEARTH ALUMINUM CASTING. THE KIT MFG SAYS THAT A STEEL REPLACEMENT IS A VIABLE. TWO SMALL FRAGMENTS OF THE SUPPORT ARE INCLUDED WITH THE INCIDENT REPORT. THE PHOTOGRAPHS WERE TAKEN BY THE MASS AERONAUTICS INSPECTOR ^PRIVACY DATA OM^ PARAGRAPH 33 FAA FORM 8020-23

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
