## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT WAS AT CRUISE ALTITUDE, WEST BOUND, IN THE VICINITY OF THE SOUTH EDGE OF THE U.S. PETRIFIED FOREST APPROX. 15 MILES EAST OF HOLBROOK, AZ. WHEN THE PROPELLER SUDDENLY LOST AN OUTBOARD TIP OF ONE OF THE BLADES. THE PILOT IMMEDIATELY PULLED THE THROTTLE BACK, NOTIFIED THE ATC CENTER OF THE SITUATION, AND SAID HE WAS GOING TO TRY AND LAND ON I-40. THE PILOT ACTUALLY DID LAND ON A PAVED U.S. FORESTRY ROAD JUST NORTH OF I-40 AND APPROX. 15-20 MILES EAST OF HOLBROOK, AZ. THE EMERGENCY LANDING WAS UNEVENTFUL AND THERE WAS NO DAMAGE/FIRE TO THE AIRCRAFT OR INJURY TO THE PILOT, THE SOLE OCCUPANT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
