WHILE ON FINAL APPROACH TO RUNWAY 19R, THE ENGINE QUIT. THE PILOT STATED THAT DURING PREFLIGHT, THE FUEL GAUGES SHOWED 1/2 FULL IN THE LEFT TANK AND 3/4 FULL IN THE RIGHT TANK. THE PILOT ALSO STATED THAT HE VISUALLY INSPECTED THE QUANTITY OF FUEL IN EACH TANK PRIOR TO DEPARTURE. AFTER LANDING ON THE SANDBAR, HE REFUELED 10 GALLONS IN THE TANKS FOR THE SHORT FLIGHT TO KRVS. ACCORDING TO RECEIPTS OBTAINED HE FILLED THE TANKS TO CAPACITY, WHICH AMOUNT TO 53 GALLONS TOTAL. THE TOTAL FUEL CAPACITY FOR THIS AIRCRAFT IS 80 GALLONS. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE THOUGHT BASED ON HIS PLANNING THAT HE HAD 1.5 HOURS OF FLIGHT TIME WHEN THE DEPARTED PARSONS, KS FOR KVRS. SUBSEQUENT INSPECTION BY MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL HAS DETERMINED THAT THE RIGHT FUEL TANK VENT CHECK VALVE WAS DEFECTIVE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
