## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AS THE FIRST JUMPER WAS GETTING POSITIONED TO EXIT THE AIRPLANE, HIS EMERGENCY PARACHUTE DEPLOYED, DRAPING ITS LINES OVER THE RIGHT HORIZONTAL STABILIZER. AS HE WAS PULLED FROM THE AIRPLANE, HE WENT UNDER THE HORIZONTAL STABILIZER, CAUSING THE LINES TO TIGHTEN AROUND IT. AS THE LINES CAME FREE, THEY BENT THE STABILIZER DOWN AND BROKE THE OUTER HINGE ON THE RIGHT ELEVATOR. THE REMAINING TWO SKYDIVERS THEN EXITED THE AIRPLANE AND THE PILOT LANDED AT THE AIRPORT WITHOUT ANY FURTHER INCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI06CA028](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI06CA028), Nov 6, 2005: Cessna 182 (N5784B), Butler, MO, substantial damage. Probable cause: The damage to the horizontal stabilizer was a result of the inadvertent deployment of the skydiver's reserve parachute.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
