## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) DURING A NIGHT TIME FINAL APPROACH TO RWY 03 AT EMERY (SC36), LANDRUM, SC, THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK SEVERAL TREES, ROLLED INVERTED, AND IMPACTED THE GROUND. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST IN AN INVERTED POSITION AGAINST A TREE. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED FOR THE TITLE 14 CFR PART 91 FLIGHT THAT WAS BEING OPERATED UNDER VISUAL FLIGHT RULES AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. AN IFR FLIGHT PLAN HAD BEEN FILED, BUT IFR SERVICE WAS CANCELLED WITH GREER APPROACH PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT. THE PILOT AND ONE PASSENGER WERE ON BOARD THE AIRCRAFT; BOTH RECEIVED MINOR INJURIES. THE AIRCRAFT RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ATL06CA013](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ATL06CA013), Nov 7, 2005: Beech BE-76 (N3873X), Greer, SC, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's misjudgment of altitude and distance which resulted in an undershoot of the runway, and the collision with trees.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
