## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON NOVEMBER 7, 2005, THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED WAS SPRAYING A FIELD 8 NAUTICAL MILES EAST OF BROKEN BOW, NEBRASKA, WHEN HE STRUCK A POWER LINE WITH HIS AIR TRACTOR AT-401. THE FIELD THAT HE WAS SPRAYING HAD A POWER LINE THAT RAN EAST TO WEST THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE FIELD. HE WAS AWARE OF THIS POWER LINE AND WAS TRYING TO SPRAY AROUND IT AND MANEUVER AROUND TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE POWER LINE WHEN HE CAUGHT THE TOP STATIC LINE WITH THE NOSE OF THE AIRCRAFT, JUST BELOW THE PROPELLER HUB. THE PROPELLER CUT THE LINE ALLOWING THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DAT^ TO STAY AIRBORNE AND FLY BACK TO THE BROKEN BOW AIRPORT TO INSPECT FOR DAMAGE. HE CALLED THE POWER COMPANY TO INFORM THEM OF THE DOWNED LINE AND TO PAY THEM FOR THE DAMAGE. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE TO THE PROPELLER, A NICK IN ONE BLADE, WHICH THE PROPELLER SHOP INDICATED THAT IT COULD BE REPAIRED WITH DRESSING THE BLADE AND WOULD REMAIN WITHIN TOLERANCES. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED MOSTLY COSMETIC DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE OF THE WING AND MINOR DAMAGE TO SOME PANELS FROM THE POWER LINES WHEN THE AIRCRAFT FLEW THROUGH IT. THE VERY NATURE OF AERIAL APPLICATION WORK PRESENTS THESE HAZARDS IN THEIR LINE OF WORK.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
