## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT WAS BUILDING THIS HOME BUILT AIRCRAFT FOR THE PAST 17 YEARS. THIS WAS THE FIRST FLIGHT FOR THIS AIRCRAFT AND THE PILOT DID NOT WANT ANYONE WITH MORE EXPERIENCE TO FLY IT IN CASE SOMETHING WOULD HAPPEN. THE PILOT FLEW FOR APPROX. 30 MINUTES AT ALITITUDE WITH NO PROBLEMS. THE PILOT THEN CAME IN FOR A LANDING AND GOT TOO SLOW ON THE FINAL APPROACH AND THE AIRCRAFT STALLED CAUSING THE NOSE AND RIGHT WING TO DROP. SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND THE PILOT RECEIVED MINOR INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX06CA037](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX06CA037), Nov 16, 2005: Hopkins Rutan VariViggen (N389VV), Aguila, AZ, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's failure to maintain an adequate airspeed during landing approach, which resulted in an inadvertent stall. A contributing factor was the pilot's lack of experience in the accident airplane.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
