## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT HAD BEEN DECLARED FOR A SHORT APPROACH WHILE ON DOWNWIND TO RUNWAY 30R AND FLEW THROUGH THE EXTENDED CENTERLINE OF THE RUNWAY WHILE ON RIGHT BASE LEG AN ESTIMATED ALTITUDE OF 40' ABOVE GROUND LEVEL. THE AIRCRAFT WAS OBSERVED BY ATC PERSONNEL TO ENTER A STEEP RIGHT BANK TO FINAL APPROACH AND TO LOSE ALTITUDE RAPIDLY. IT WAS OBSERVED TO LAND HARD ON THE RIGHT MAIN GEAR WHICH IMMEDIATELY BROKE OFF, FOLLOWED BY THE LEFT WING COMING DOWN HARD. THE REMAINING TWO LANDING GEAR LEGS BROKE OFF AND THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO A STOP. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED IN AN OVERRUN APPROXIMATELY 1200 FEET SHORT OF THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT (SOLE OCCUPANT) IS A CERTIFICATED FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR WHO REPORTED THAT SHE WAS ON A VFR FLIGHT FROM KPTV TO KBFL AND BELIEVED SHE MADE A HARD BUT OTHERWISE NORMAL LANDING FOLLOWED BY A GEAR COLLAPSE. SHE RECEIVED NO INJURIES BUT THE AIRCRAFT SUFFERED MAJOR STRUCTURAL DAMAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX06CA038](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX06CA038), Nov 17, 2005: Piper PA-28RT-201 (N2863X), Bakersfield, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's failure to maintain adequate airspeed, which resulted in an accelerated stall and hard landing.

## Other reports on N2863X (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19920425017729I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920425017729I), Apr 25, 1992: Piper PA28RT201 (N2863X), Coalinga, CA, Minor damage. Pilot struck a parked aircraft while taxiing in the run-up area.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
