## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT DEPARTED STATESVILLE, NC (SVH) WITH ONE PASSENGER ONBOARD FOR FLIGHT TO PILOTS HOME NEAR OWENSBORO, KY TO LAND AT GRASS STRIP ON HIS PROPERTY. UPON LANDING PILOT WAS UNABLE TO STOP AIRCRAFT AND HIT A PINE TREE AT THE END OF THE STRIP. AIRCRAFT RECENTLY HAD AN ANNUAL INSPECTION PERFORMED IN WHICH THE MAIN LANDING GEAR BRAKES AND DISCS WERE REPLACED. PILOT STATED THAT HE FAILED TO PROPERLY PERFORM THE RECOMMENDED CHECK OUT PROCEDURES TO INSURE THE BRAKES WERE PROPERLY "SEATED" AFTER THE MAINTENANCE WAS PERFORMED. PILOT STATED THAT HE HAD COMPLETED APPROXIMATELY 3 LANDINGS PRIOR TO THIS EVENT, BUT ONLY NEEDED MINIMAL BRAKING ACTION DURING THESE LANDINGS. UPON LANDING ON THE GRASS STRIP AND NEEDING FULL BRAKING ACTION, THE BRAKES WERE UNABLE TO STOP THE AIRCRAFT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC06CA037](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC06CA037), Nov 23, 2005: Grumman AA5A (N26708), Maceo, KY, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's misjudged distance/speed, and his failure to properly seat the airplane's recently installed brakes. A factor was the quartering tailwind.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
