## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON THE DAY OF THE INCIDENT, THE PILOT IN COMMAND (APPLICANT) WAS BEING EVALUATED FOR AN INSTRUMENT RATING ON HIS COMMERCIAL LICENSE. WHILE CONDUCTING A GPS APPROACH TO RUNWAY 36 AT RUSTON, LA, WITH THE AIRCRAFT CONFIGURED FOR LANDING, THE PILOT DECIDED TO EXECUTE A MISSED APPROACH PROCEDURE PREMATURELY (I.E. BEFORE REACHING THE DESIRED MAP). AT THAT POINT, THE INSTRUMENT EXAMINER TOLD THE PILOT TO STAY UNDER THE HOOD. THE PILOT REPLACED THE HOOD, WAS OBSERVED TO MOVE THE GEAR HANDLE DOWNWARD, AND CONTINUED THE APPROACH FOR LANDING. A VISUAL LANDING SEQUENCE FOLLOWED BUT THE PILOT FAILED TO VISUALLY CHECK THE GEAR INDICATOR LIGHT (TO ENSURE THE GEAR WAS DOWN AND LOCKED) AND LANDED THE AIRPLANE IN THE GEAR UP CONFIGURATION.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
