## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT WAS RETURNING TO CALDWELL, ID (EUL) FROM JOSEPH, OR (4S3) ON A ROUND TRIP THAT ORIGINATED IN EUL WHEN HE LEARNED OF REPORTED IFR WEATHER CONDITIONS AT EUL. HE CALLED BOISE ATCT WITH THE INTENT TO CONTINUE TO BOI TO LAND WHEN HE EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE ENGINE POWER LOSS. HE DECIDED TO ATTEMPT A LANDING AT EMMETT, ID (S78). DUE TO VERY LOW VISIBILITIES THE PILOT WAS UNABLE TO FIND THE AIRPORT AND MADE AN EMERGENCY LANDING IN A FIELD IN THE EMMETT AREA. THE AIRCRAFT WAS DESTROYED ON IMPACT WITH THE GROUND. INVESTIGATION OF THE WRECKAGE REVEALED THAT THE RIGHT WING CONTAINED NO FUEL AND THE LEFT WING CONTAINED A TOTAL OF 3.2 GALLONS, OF WHICH 2.2 WERE USABLE FUEL. THE FUEL SELECTOR WAS TURNED TO THE RIGHT WING FUEL TANK. BOTH WING TANKS REMAINED INTACT WITH NO INDICATIONS OF LEAKAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA06CA032](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA06CA032), Dec 25, 2005: Piper PA-28-151 (N5695V), Emmett, ID, destroyed. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate in-flight decision by failing to refuel while en route, resulting in fuel exhaustion and the loss of power. A factor was the fence post.

## Other reports on N5695V (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19801116079929I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19801116079929I), Nov 16, 1980: Piper PA28151 (N5695V), Redlands, CA, Minor damage. Pilot on second pass overshot, hit rocks at runway end. Landed long, possibly downwind.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
