## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON JANUARY 04, 2006 AT APPROXIMATELY 14:50 PST, A PIPER PA-28/140 (N38478) EXPERIENCED AN ENGINE PROBLEM WHILE IN CRUISE FLIGHT AT 1,400 FEET MSL, 3 MILES SOUTH OF HAYWARD AIRPORT (HWD), HAYWARD, CALIFORNIA. THE CERTIFIED FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE ENGINE UNSUCCESSFULLY. THE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR TOOK CONTROL OF THE AIRPLANE AND LINED UP TO LAND ON INTERSTATE 680 SOUTH BOUND. A NORMAL LANDING WAS MADE ON THE FOUR LAND HIGHWAY WHILE TRAFFIC SLOWED DOWN ACCORDINGLY. THE TWO PILOTS EXITED THE AIRPLANE AND PUSHED IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. AFTER THE INITIAL FAA INVESTIGATION WAS COMPLETED, INTERSTATE 680 WAS CLOSED AND THE TWO PILOTS TAXIED THE AIRCRAFT TO THE NEXT EXIT (SCOTT CREEK RD) AT THE REQUEST OF THE CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
