## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PURPOSE OF THE FLIGHT WAS AN AIRCRAFT CHECKOUT FOR THE PILOT, WHO WAS AT THE CONTROLS AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. ON THE DOWNWIND LEG FOR RUNWAY 34 RIGHT, THE CFI SUMULATED A RIGHT ENGINE FAILURE BY CLOSING THE RIGHT THROTTLE. ACCORDING TO THE PILOT, CFI AND WITNESSES ON THE GROUND, EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL UP TO THE POINT OF THE LANDING FLARE. BOTH PILOTS STATED THAT DURING THE FLARE, THE AIRPLANE ROTATED RAPIDLY TO THE RIGHT, STRIKING THE RIGHT WING ON THE RUNWAY. THE AIRPLANE VEERED TO THE RIGHT AND DEPARTED THE RUNWAY SURFACE. AT THAT POINT, THE AIRPLANE PITCHED UP. THE CFI TOOK CONTROL, LEVELED THE WINGS AND PITCHED THE NOSE DOWN. THE AIRPLANE HIT THE TAXIWAY AND SLID SIDEWAYS, RIGHT WING FIRST, INTO A HANGAR, SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGING THE AIRPLANE. THE WIND WAS REPORTED TO BE 330 AT 9 KNOTS DURING THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. THE CFI RECALLED A WIND REPORT OF 330 AT 12 PRIOR TO LANDING. BOTH PILOTS RECALLED THAT THE WINDS WERE GUSTING AT THE TIME. THIS WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN A 10 DEGREE CROSSWIND FROM THE LEFT. THE RIGHT ENGINE WAS SIMULATED FAILED, AND THE THROTTLE WAS CLOSED. THE PILOT WAS USING ONLY THE LEFT THROTTLE.Y

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
