## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT WAS TAKING OFF WHEN THE FRONT WHEEL BEGAN TO SHIMMY. HE STAED HE THOUGHT HE COULD KEEP THE AIRCRAFT STRAIGHT, BUT IT BEGAN TO PULL TO THE LEFT. HE APPLIED RIGHT BRAKE, BUT IT DID NOT HELP. THE PILOT STATED HE NEVER REDUCED POWER ON THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED TO GO LEFT AND IMPACTED A DIRT BANK. IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE STEERING ROD ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE NOSE WHEEL FAILED. THIS FAILURE ALONG WITH THE TORQUE PRODUCED BY THE ENGINE WITH TAKEOFF POWER AND THE PILOT NEVER REDUCING ENGINE POWER, CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO VEER ON A HARD LEFT DIRECTION UNTIL IMPACT WITH AN EMBANKMENT.
