## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) DURING AN ATTEMPTED LANDING TO AN ICE-COVERED LAKE THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK A HEAVY GAUGE TELEPHONE CABLE THAT WAS SUSPENDED ACROSS THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE LAKE. THE PILOT SAW THE CABLE WHILE ON SHORT FINAL WHILE LANDING TO THE NORTH. HE ATTEMPTED TO TAKE EVASIVE ACTION BY NOSING THE AIRCRAFT DOWN IN AN ATTEMPT TO FLY UNDER THE WIRE. THE AIRCRAFT'S VERTICAL STABILIZER AND RUDDER CAUGHT THE WIRE AND THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK THE ICE IN A NOSE LOW ATTITUDE. BOTH PILOT AND PASSENGER WERE WEARING SHOULDER HARNESSES AND WERE NOT INJURED. DAMAGE WAS NOTED TO ENGINE, PROPELLER, LANDING GEAR, LEFT WING, HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL STABILIZER, AND RUDDER. THERE WAS SOME DAMAGE TO AT LEAST ONE UNOCCUPIED RESIDENCE ON THE SOUTHWEST SHORE FROM THE CABLE AS IT BROKE AND CONTACTED THE PLACE WITH SOME FORCE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC06CA060](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC06CA060), Jan 20, 2006: Cessna 305A (N5300G), Seboeis, ME, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain clearance from power lines, while attempting to land on a frozen lake.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
