## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PER WITNESS & PILOT STATEMENTS: LANDING RUNWAY 01 @N07, N285MG CROSSED THE NUMBERS AT FULL FLAPS, AND SLOWING. THE NOSE WAS "HI" IN THE FLARE. TEN FEET OFF THE RNWY THE NOSE CAME UP AND THE A/C DROPPED. THE PLANE BOUNCED HARD ON LANDING, PARTS SEPARATED FROM THE LEFT WHEEL. THE LEFT WING DROPPED AS THE PILOT APPLIED FULL POWER TO EXECUTE BALKED LANDING...ATTAINED 25-50', THEN IN A 50-60 DEGREE LEFTBANK...VEERED 200' WEST OF RNWY INTO THE TREELINE. PILOT & PAX EXITED AIRCRAFT UNINJURED BEFORE FIRE ENGULFED AND DESTROYED A/C. DUE TO THE FIRE, THE BALLISTIC PARACHUTE'S ROCKET SHUT OFF AND DEPARTED THE AIRCRAFT WHILE "FIRST RESPONDERS" AND OBSERVERS WERE IN THE VICINITY OF A/C. TWO SEAT BELT "AIR BAG" ACTUATION CYLINDERS (6,250#) COMPRESSED AIR WERE FOUND DURING POST ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION AND IT COULD NOT BE DETERMINED IF THEY WERE DEPLETED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC06CA058](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC06CA058), Jan 22, 2006: Cirrus Design SR22 (N285MG), Lincoln Park, NJ, destroyed. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control during an aborted landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
