## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) CREW MADE DECISION TO LAND AT AKRON-CANTON (CAK) SHORTLY AFTER DEPARTURE FROM MANSFIELD (MFD) DUE TO THE LANDING GEAR NOT RETRACTING. CREW DID NOT DECLARE AN EMERGENCY DUE TO HAVING A NORMAL (THREE GREEN) INDICATION OF THE LANDING GEAR BEING DOWN AND LOCKED. THE AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED A HARDER THAN NORMAL LANDING. THE CREW TAXIED THE AIRCRAFT TO THE RAMP AND AFTER DEPLANING NOTICED FUEL LEAKING FROM THE RIGHT WING LEADING EDGE, TWO POPPED RIVETS AND DISTORTION OF THE WING SURFACE. THE FOLLOWING WEEK MAINTENANCE INSPECTED THE AIRCRAFT AND NOTED MAJOR STRUCTURAL DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT WING AND RIGHT FLAP AND MINOR DAMAGE TO THE LEFT WING FENCE. MAINTENANCE PERFORMED A GEAR SWING AND FAILED TO NOTE ANY DEFECTS. PER SOCATA ENGINEERING, THE FOLLOWING ITEMS MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE THE AIRCRAFT CAN BE RETURNED TO SERVICE: REPLACEMENT OF BOTH WING ASSEMBLIES, OVERHAUL BOTH MAIN LANDING GEAR ASSEMBLIES AND ACTUATORS, AND PERFORM A COMPLETE DIMENSIONAL ALIGNMENT INSPECTION OF BOTH WING ATTACH FITTINGS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI06CA079](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI06CA079), Feb 4, 2006: Socata TBM 700 (N755PG), Canton, OH, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot failed to flare the airplane properly.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
