## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON FEBRUARY 16, 2006 AT 1800 MST STUDENT PILOT MISSED A SINGLE ENGINE PRACTICE VOR/DME APPROACH INTO RUNWAY 21 AT KIGM AND REMOVED HIS FOGGLES THAT HE WAS WEARING FOR TRAINING. THE CFI ASSUMED COMMAND OF THE AIRCRAFT, AND WAS DEMONSTRATING THE FIRST LANDING WHEN THE STUDENT NOTICED AN AIRCRAFT TAKING OFF ON RUNWAY 21 AND MAKING A RIGHT TURN TOWARDS THEM AS THEY WERE TURNING FOR FINAL. DURING THE DISTRACTION OF THE AIRCRAFT THE CFI FORGOT TO VERIFY THAT THE GEAR HAD NOT BEEN LOWERED. AIRCRAFT CRASHED WITH HEAVY DAMAGE TO THE PROPS AND BELLY OF THE AIRCRAFT. NO INJURIES OR POST FIRE ON SCENE. THE CFI WAS TRAINING A STUDENT FOR HIS ATP CERTIFICATION WHEN THE GEAR UP LANDING OCCURRED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX06CA119](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX06CA119), Feb 17, 2006: Beech 95 (N2096C), Kingman, AZ, substantial damage. Probable cause: the flight instructor's failure to perform the before landing checklist and extend the landing gear prior to touchdown. A contributing factor was the pilot's diverted attention with another airplane…
