## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE HELICOPTER WAS BEING REPOSITIONED FROM CHARLESTON W. VA (CRW) TO MIDDLESBORO KY (1A6) IN ORDER TO CONDUCT A PART 135 FLIGHT. PRIOR TO REACHING 1A6 THE PILOT LANDED DUE TO DETERIORATING WEATHER (FOG). AFTER CONFERRING WITH COMPANY PERSONNEL THE PILOT DECIDED TO FLY TO HAZARD KY (K20). DURING THIS FLIGHT TO K20 THE HELICOPTER CRASHED INTO A FIELD APPROXIMATELY 12 MILES SOUTHEAST OF MANCHESTER KY. AT THIS TIME THE PILOT HAS LIMITED MEMORY OF THE EVENT BUT DOES NOT RECALL ANYTHING UNUSUAL IN THE OPERATION OF THE HELICOPTER.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC06LA062](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC06LA062), Feb 17, 2006: Bell 206B (N36HF), Big Creek, KY, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadvertent settling with power during a descent. Contributing to the accident was mechanical turbulence in the lee of an obstruction in windy conditions.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
