## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRCRAFT WAS AT CRUISE, WHILE PILOT WAS TRYING TO ADJUST THROTTLE CONTROL. PILOT REPORTED THAT THROTTLE CABLE WAS SLIGHTLY HARD TO MOVE, SO WHILE TRYING TO ADJUST RPM THE THROTTLE CONTROL ULTIMATELY ENDED UP IN THE IDLE POSITION AND COULD NOT BE MOVED. AS AIRCRAFT WAS LOSING ALTITUDE AND TRYING TO FIND A SUITABLE PLACE TO LAND, AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE AS IT IMPACTED WITH TREES AND TERRAIN. PILOT SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI06LA088](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI06LA088), Feb 27, 2006: Irwin Sonex 2180 (N514KP), Rockford, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The loss of engine power due to the restricted movement of the throttle cable during cruise flight. A factor in the accident was the trees contacted during the forced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
