## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) INSTRUCTOR WAS DEMONSTRATING NORMAL LANDINGS TO STUDENT. STUDENT WAS TO "FOLLOW" THE INSTRUCTOR THROUGH THE CONTROLS. WINDS WERE A CROSSWIND FROM THE RIGHT WITH SOME TURBULENCE AS STATED BY THE INSTRUCTOR. AT SOME POINT DURING THE INSTRUCTION, APPROXIMATELY 3 TO 10 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND, THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN TO DRIFT TO THE LEFT. THE INSTRUCTOR BEGAN A FULL POWER GO-AROUND HOWEVER, THE STUDENT MAINTAINED A STRONG GRIP ON THE CONTROLS AND WOULD NOT RELEASE HIS CONTROL. THE INSTRUCTOR WAS PHYSICALLY UNABLE TO OVERPOWER THE STUDENT. THE AIRCRAFT CONTINUED LEFT UNTIL THE LEFT GEAR SNAGGED A HIGH POWER LINE ON THE PERIMETER OF THE AIRFIELD BOUNDARY AND SUBSEQUENTLY CRASHED IN A CITY STREET.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX06CA125](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX06CA125), Mar 7, 2006: Cessna 172N (N739NU), Compton, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: control interference by the student pilot during a go-around that resulted in an in-flight collision with power lines.

## Other reports on N739NU (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19910621038459I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910621038459I), Jun 21, 1991: Cessna 172N (N739NU), Islip, NY. Unable to retract flaps while making touch and go landings. Veered off runway into grass.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
