## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT REPORTED THAT AFTER REACHING AN ALTITUDE OF 3000' FEET HE LEVELED FOR CRUISE AND RETARDED THE THROTTLE AND TURNED OFF THE FUEL PUMP. AT THAT TIME THE ENGINE RAN ROUGH AND LOST POWER. THE FUEL PUMP WAS TURNED ON AND THE THROTTLE WAS NOT RESPONSIVE. THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO RETURN TO THE AIRFIELD BUT WAS NOT ABLE TO AND LANDED SHORT IN A CLEARING. APPROXIMATELY THIRTY-FIVE GALLONS OF FUEL WAS REMOVED FROM THE AIRCRAFT AT THE ACCIDENT SCENE. THE AIRCRAFT ENGINE WAS INSPECTED AND APPEARED TO BE NORMAL.
