## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED HE WAS ON A "SHORT" CROSS COUNTRY FLIGHT FROM THE BLOOMSBURG AIRPORT (N13) TO THE HAZELTON AIRPORT (HZL). HE STATED HE LANDED ON RUNWAY 28 WITHOUT INCIDENT AND HAD LUNCH. AFTER LUNCH HE DECIDED TO CONDUCT SOME TAKEOFFS AND LANDINGS AT HZL. DURING THE FIRST LANDING ON RUNWAY 28 HE APPROACHED WITH FULL FLAPS AT APPROXIMATELY 60 KTS AIRSPEED. DURING LEVEL-OFF, HE STATED HE BALLOONED, HELD THE NOSE OF THE AIRCRAFT UP, AND LANDED FLAT AT A HIGHER THAN NORMAL RATE OF DESCENT. AS A RESULT OF THE IMPACT, THE NOSE LANDING GEAR BENT FORWARD, CAUSING THE ENGINE MOUNTS TO CRACK, AND DAMAGE TO THE FIREWALL. THE NEAREST WEATHER REPORTING STATION IS THE WILKES BARRE/SCRANTON AIRPORT (KAVP). WEATHER AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT WAS REPORTED AS CLEAR WITH 10 MILES VISIBILITY, WINDS WERE 230 AT 11 WITH NO GUSTS REPORTED. THERE WERE NO REPORTED INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC06CA094](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC06CA094), Mar 30, 2006: Cessna 150M (N704MT), Hazleton, PA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's improper recovery from a bounced landing, resulting in a hard landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
