## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) CFI PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS CHECKING OUT PRIVATE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ IN THE 7AC, (BOTH MEN WEIGH OVER 200 POUNDS). THEY DEPARTED POST MILLS, VT (2B9) AND FLEW VFR TO HAVERHILL, NH (5B9) WHERE THEY LANDED AND SHUT DOWN FOR AT LEAST 15 MINUTES. AT APPROXIMATELY 11:50 AM THEY ATTEMPTED TO TAKEOFF ON RUNWAY 19 (2400 FT, PAVED AND TALL TREES JUST OFF THE SOUTH END). THE PILOT REPORTED THE WIND WAS FROM THE SSW AT 10 KTS, BUT MAY HAVE CHANGED TO WNW. LOCAL AIRPORT MANAGER REPORTED THE WINDS WERE FROM THE WEST. THEY LIFTED OFF, WITH NML RPM & A/S, BUT THE AIRCRAFT WOULD NOT CLIMB. IT WAS OBVIOUS THEY WOULD NOT CLEAR THE TREES, SO THEY TURNED LEFT TOWARD A ROAD IN THE OPEN AREA TO THE EAST. THEY FIRST HIT THE GROUND NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF 2 ROADS AT THE SE CORNER OF THE AIRPORT. THEY KNOCKED DOWN 2 SIGNS, BOUNCED ACROSS A LARGE DITCH, TOOK THE TOPS OFF SOME SMALL TREES AND FINALLY CAME TO REST IN THE HAVERHILL MIDDLE SCHOOL PLAYGROUND, LESS THAN 100FT FROM THE SCHOOL (IT WAS SATURDAY SO SCHOOL WAS NOT IN SESSION AT THE TIME). NO INJURIES. MINOR PROPERTY DAMAGE. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE LEFT WING, AFT FUSELAGE, LEFT MLG COLLAPSED, PROP BENT, ENGINE COWL, ENGINE MOUNT AND FIREWALL DAMAGED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC06CA096](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC06CA096), Apr 15, 2006: Aeronca 7AC (N82320), Haverhill, NH, substantial damage. Probable cause: The flight instructor's inadequate preflight planning, which resulted in a forced landing and subsequent impact with a sign.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
