## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRCRAFT WAS ON AN ILS-35 APPROACH TO THE BLOOMINGTON INDIANA AIRPORT AFTER REQUESTING AND RECEIVING RADAR VECTORS TO THE FINAL APPROACH COURSE, WHEN IT DESCENDED INTO A GROUP OF TREES, LOCATED ON THE AIRPORT PROPERTY, IN A STEEP, NOSE DOWN, RIGHT TURN ATTITUDE. THE PILOT LOST CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT FOR UNKNOWN REASONS, AFTER ENCOUNTERING LOW, UNFORECASTED, IFR CONDITIONS. NO AIRWORTHINESS ISSUES WERE DISCOVERED AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS DESTROYED ON IMPACT. THERE WERE FIVE FATALITIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI06FA117](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI06FA117), Apr 21, 2006: Cessna U206G (N120HS), Bloomington, IN, destroyed, 5 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's continued descent below decision height and not maintaining adequate altitude/clearance from the trees while on approach. Factors were the the night lighting conditions, and the mist.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
