## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT STATED THAT HE ATTEMPTED TAKEOFF FROM RUNWAY 18, A GRASS SURFACE, AT CHALET SUZANNE AIRPORT, IN LA-4-200, N1051L. HE INDICATED THAT THE AIRCRAFT DID NOT ACCELERATE AS WELL AS EXPECTED, BUT INSTEAD OF ABORTING THE TAKEOFF, HE CONTINUED THE TAKEOFF ROLL. THE AIRCRAFT WENT OFF THE END OF THE RUNWAY, ACROSS A ROAD, HIT A BERM, AND BRIEFLY BECAME AIRBORNE UNTIL IMPACTING THE GROUND APPROXIMATELY 500 FEET FROM THE END OF RUNWAY 18. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE, AND THE PILOT AND HIS PASSENGER SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. THE PILOT STATED THAT THERE WERE NO MECHANICAL PROBLEMS WITH N1051L, AND ACKNOWLEDGED THAT DRY, SANDY RUNWAY CONDITIONS, HIGH DENSITY ALTITUDE, AND A SLIGHT TRAILING CROSSWIND CONTRIBUTED TO THE ACCIDENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
