## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE ACCIDENT WAS INITIALLY REPORTED TO THE CHICAGO DUPAGE FSDO BY AN ANONYMOUS CALLER AFTER THE DATE OF OCCURRENCE. THE SOUTH BEND FSDO RECEIVED THIS REPORT ON MAY 16, 2006. THE PILOT REMOVED THE WRECKAGE AND TRANSPORTED IT BACK TO HIS HANGAR IN ILLINOIS. IT WAS REPORTED THAT THE PILOT LANDED THE HELICOPTER IN A FIELD TO TAKE ITEMS TO ONE OF HIS TRUCK DRIVERS WHO WENT INTO A DITCH. UPON RETURNING TO THE HELICOPTER, HE NOTICED THE RPM WAS STARTING TO INCREASE ON ITS OWN. SHORTLY THEREAFTER THE HELICOPTER ROLLED ONTO ITS RIGHT SIDE WITH THE MAIN ROTOR AND TAIL BOOM DAMAGED. HE AND ONE OF HIS TRUCK DRIVERS LOADED THE HELICOPTER ONTO A FLATBED TRAILER AND TRANSPORTED IT BACK TO HIS AIRFIELD. ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI06CA130](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI06CA130), Apr 25, 2006: Robinson R22 Beta (N7197K), Brook, IN, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's intentional decision to leave the helicopter unattended with the engines running which resulted in a dynamic rollover. The inadvertent dynamic rollover was a factor.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
