(-23) THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED RWY 15 AT FURNACE CREEK AIRPORT, DEATH VALLEY, CA., LOST ENGINE POWER, AND CRASHED 1/4 MILE FROM THE AIRPORT AT 1300 HRS, ON 04/30/2006. THE AIRCRAFT WAS DESTROYED. THE PILOT WAS FATALLY INJURED, ONE PASSENGER HAD MINOR INJURIES AND WAS TRANSPORTED OUT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX06LA153](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX06LA153), Apr 30, 2006: Ronald R Russell RV-6 (N655VT), Death Valley, CA, destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: a fuel starvation induced loss of engine power due to a likely vapor lock condition in the fuel lines.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
