## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AT THE TIME OF AIRCRAFT RECOVERY OF THE WRECKAGE THE RECOVERY PERSONNEL REPORTED THAT THE AIRCRAFT HAD 1/3 FULL TANKS ON ONE SIDE AND FULL TANKS ON THE OTHER SIDE. THE NOSE GEAR WAS TORN OFF AND THE PROP WAS WINDMILLING AT TIME OF IMPACT WHICH CAUSED SUDDEN ENGINE STOPPAGE. NO DAMAGE WAS NOTED TO THE FIREWALL. THE PILOT AND STUDENT PILOT BOTH STATED THAT THEY WERE INBOUND TO CHICO AIRPORT AT APPROXIMATELY 1000 FEET AWAITING THEIR SEQUENCE TO LAND. THEY CHANGED FUEL TANKS AND WERE INSTRUCTED TO MAKE A 360 FOR SPACING. THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN FINE FOR APPROXIMATELY 3 MINUTES THEN JUST STOPPED RUNNING. THE INSTRUCTOR TOOK THE CONTROLS, SET UP THE BEST GLIDE AND MADE A SUCCESSFUL ENGINE OUT LANDING OFF AIRPORT. NO INJURIES TO THE PILOT OR STUDENT. NORTHGATE AVIATION AT CHICO PERFORMED SOME EVALUATIONS AND TO DATE HAS NOT DETERMINED A CAUSE FOR THE ENGINE STOPPAGE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
