(-23) ON FLIGHT 4518 (PIT-AVP) ABOUT 10 MIN. AFTER DEPARTURE THE CREW STARTED GETTING SMOKE IN THE COCKPIT FROM WHAT THEY DESCRIBED AS THE WINDSHIELD AREA. THEY FOLLOWED NORMAL PROCEDURES BY DONNING THEIR O2 MASK, THE CAPTAIN THEN TOOK OVER AS PILOT FLYING. THE CREW DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND ASKED PIT APPROACH FOR THE NEAREST SUITABLE AIRPORT. THE CREW DIVERTED INTO LATROBE, PA (LBE) AND LANDED SAFELY AROUND 9:00 AM LOCAL. CRASH FIRE AND RESCUE WAS THERE TO MEET THE PLANE, AND THE PASSENGERS DEPLANED ON THE TAXIWAY USING THE AIRSTAIR DOOR. From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
