## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT WAS RETURNING FROM NEW IBERIA/ACADIANA REGIONAL (AKA) WHERE AN ANNUAL INSPECTION HAD JUST BEEN COMPLETED ON THE INCIDENT AIRCRAFT. ON ARRIVAL, THE PILOT LANDED THE HELICOPTER ON A PORTABLE CART POSITIONED OUTSIDE BUT IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE HANGAR WHERE THE AIRCRAFT IS NORMALLY STORED WHEN NOT FLYING. IT WAS THE BELIEF OF THE PILOT THAT THE WHEELS OF THE CART RESTED IN DETENTS CARVED INTO THE CONCRETE RAMP TO PREVENT CART MOVEMENT ONCE THE WEIGHT OF THE HELICOPTER WAS ON TOP OF IT. AFTER LANDING, THE PILOT ROLLED BACK THE THROTTLE TO IDLE AND SHORTLY THEREAFTER THE CART, WITH THE WEIGHT OF THE HELICOPTER ON TOP OF IT, BEGAN TO MOVE TOWARD THE NEARBY HANGAR. RECOGNIZING THAT A COLLISION WITH THE HANGAR WAS IMMINENT, THE PILOT ROLLED THE THROTTLE BACK UP TO REGAIN ENOUGH RPM TO FLY AWAY BUT BEFORE THE RPM WAS ABLE TO BUILD UP, THE MAIN ROTOR BLADES OF THE HELICOPTER STRUCK THE SIDE OF THE HANGAR WITH THE REST OF THE HELICOPTER SUSTAINING MAJOR DAMAGE AS WELL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW06CA124](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW06CA124), May 10, 2006: Robinson R-44 (N144DJ), West Monroe, LA, destroyed. Probable cause: The pilot's loss of control while taxiing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
