## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIR CANADA JAZZ FLIGHT 7656 WHILE ON FINAL APPROACH TO RUNWAY 14, AT DULLES INT'L AIRPORT, THE LEFT ENGINE LOWER COWL SEPARATED FROM IT'S ATTACHMENT POINTS AND DEPARTED THE AIRCRAFT. THE COWL WAS RECOVERED APPROXIMATELY 1500 FEET FROM THE RUNWAY THRESHOLD ON AIRPORT PROPERTY. AN ON SCENE INVESTIGATION WAS CONDUCTED BY FAA INSPECTOR ^PRIVACY DAT^ OF THE IAD FSDO. THE AIRCRAFT RECORDS INDICATED THAT THE LEFT ENGINE COWL WAS NOT OPENED IN THE PREVIOUS 12 FLIGHTS AND THAT IMPROPER INSTALLATION OR MAINTENANCE COULD NOT BE POSITIVELY DETERMINED AS THE CAUSE. NO FURTHER INVESTIGATION INTO THIS INCIDENT IS WARRANTED AT THIS TIME AND THE REPORT IS CONSIDERED CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
