## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ACCORDING TO THE PILOTS STATEMENT, DURING TAKEOFF AT LGB AIRPORT, RUNWAY 25R, AFTER LIFTOFF AT APPROXIMATELY 100 KTS. THE CANOPY BLEW OPEN, PIVOTED OVER AND HIT THE RIGHT WING UPPER SURFACE, AND THE PLEXIGLASS VIOLENTLY BROKE APART. THE AIRCRAFT PITCHED DOWN AND HIT THE RUNWAY, BREAKING THE RIGHT MLG OFF AT THE FUSELAGE. AFTER BOUNCING BACK INTO THE AIR, THE THROTTLE WAS BACK AND AN ATTEMPT WAS MADE TO KEEP THE AIRCRAFT STRAIGHT. THE DRAG OF THE RIGHT MLG AND THE RIGHT WINGTIP CAUSED THE AIRCRAFT TO VEER TO THE RIGHT OFF OF THE RUNWAY INTO THE WEEDS. THE AIRCRAFT STOPPED ON THE PERIMETER ROAD. THE PROP TIPS WERE SHREDDED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES, THE TOWER WAS INFORMED THAT HE WAS "OK" AND THERE WAS DEBRIS ON THE RUNWAY. HE INDICATED THAT HE HAD CHECKED THE CANOPY LOCK THREE TIMES PRIOR TO TAKEOFF.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
