## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE PILOT OF THE AIRCRAFT ATTEMPTED A LANDING ON A PRIVATE GRASS AIRSTRIP APPROXIMATELY 2000 FEET IN LENGTH WHICH HAD A WET SURFACE. THE AIRCRAFT TOUCHED DOWN ON A NORTHERLY HEADING AND THE PILOT REPORTED LITTLE TO NO BRAKING AS A RESULT OF THE WET GRASS. THE AIRCRAFT HAD INSUFFICIENT SPEED TO CONDUCT A TAKE OFF MANEUVER FROM THE AIRSTRIP AND THE PILOT ELECTED TO EXIT TO THE LEFT OF THE RUNWAY PRIOR TO IMPACT WITH TREE STUMPS LOCATED AT THE RUNWAY END. AS A RESULT OF THIS MANEUVER THE AIRCRAFT SLID SIDEWAYS INTO TALL GRASS AND SMALL TREES. THE THREE OCCUPANTS OF THE AIRCRAFT RECEIVED NO INJURIES HOWEVER, THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE AS A RESULT OF THIS EVENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI06CA129](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI06CA129), May 11, 2006: Piper PA-30 (N8585Y), Dongola, IL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's intentional maneuver to avoid obstructions at the end of the runway which resulted in the airplane impacting a ditch. The wet grass runway and the ditch were factors.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
