## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ACCORDING TO THE CFI, HIS INSTRUCTOR STUDENT ENTERED AUTOROTATION WITH INTENTION OF TOUCHING DOWN ON CFI'S PRIVATE PROPERTY. IT BECAME APPARENT THAT THEY WOULD NOT CLEAR A TREE LINE AND REACH THE LANDING AREA DUE TO STRONG WINDS, SO THE CFI ATTEMPTED TO RECOVER WITH POWER. HOWEVER, HE WAS UNABLE TO OVERCOME HIS STUDENT'S GRIP ON THE THROTTLE. THE CFI APPLIED SOME COLLECTIVE TO EXTEND THE GLIDE AND CLEAR THE TREE LINE; HOWEVER, THERE WAS LITTLE ENERGY REMAINING IN THE MAIN ROTOR SYSTEM, AND THE HELICOPTER FIRMLY CONTACTED THE GROUND, BOUNCED FORWARD, THE MAIN ROTORS DROOPED AND STRUCK THE TAIL BOOM, AND THE AIRCRAFT ROLLED ONTO ITS SIDE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

Probable cause: The flight instructor's delay in taking remedial action which led to the hard landing during the practice autorotation. The misjudged glide path, the dual student restricting the throttle control,…

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
