## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRCRAFT LOST ENGINE POWER DUE TO FUEL CONTAMINANTS BLOCKING FUEL FLOW. THE SOURCE OF CONTAMINANTS WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE ANNUAL WAS COMPLETED ONE FLIGHT HOUR PRIOR TO ACCIDENT AND THE MECHANIC TOLD THE PILOT OF CONTAMINANTS NOTED IN FUEL. THE 83 YEAR OLD PILOT WAS CUT ACROSS THE HEAD AND SEVERAL STITCHES WERE REQUIRED. THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED. THE GASCOLATOR AT THE ACCIDENT SITE HAD VISIBLE SIGNS OF BROWN THICK LIQUID SUBSTANCE. THE GASCOLATOR ITSELF WAS HALF FULL OF FUEL BUT THE CARBURETOR WAS COMPLETELY DRY. CONTINUITY WAS DETERMINED THROUGHOUT THE ENGINE AND FUEL PUMPWORKED ACCORDINGLY.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ATL06CA082](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ATL06CA082), May 20, 2006: Ercoupe 415C (N99083), Crossville, TN, substantial damage. Probable cause: Inadequate maintenance inspection resulting in fuel system contamination going undetected resulting in a total loss of engine power while on final approach to land.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
