## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) DURING TAKEOFF FROM A PRIVATE 1400 FEET LONG GRASS AND DIRT AIRSTRIP TO THE NORTHEAST (053 DEGREES), THE AIRCRAFT BEGAN TO LOSE POWER. THE TAKEOFF CONTINUED AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS PITCHED UP IN A MANNER THAT RESULTED IN A TAILSTRIKE ON THE DIRT SECTION OF THE AIRSTRIP NEAR THE DEPARTURE END. THE AIRCRAFT THEN BECAME AIRBORNE, ROLLED TO THE RIGHT, PITCHED DOWN AFTER EXPERIENCING A LOSS OF LIFT, AND THEN STRUCK POWERLINES THAT WERE BENEATH AND BEYOND THE DEPARTURE END OF THE AIRSTRIP. THE AIRCRAFT SUBSEQUENTLY IMPACTED THE GROUND AND WAS DESTROYED BY A POST CRASH FIRE. TWO SKIDMARKS WERE PRESENT ON THE DIRT SECTION OF THE AIRSTRIP. THE LEFT SKIDMARK WAS 417 FEET LONG, AND THE RIGHT SKIDMARK WAS 388 FEET LONG. THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE TWO SKIDMARKS WAS 9 FEET 3/4 INCHES. THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE MAIN LANDING GEAR TIRES ON THE M-20E IS 9 FEET 3/4 INCHES. EXAMINATION OF THE DIRT SECTION OF THE AIRSTRIP FOUND AN EMBEDDED STONE WITH A BLUISH ABRASION MARK; THE BOTTOM OF THE AIRCRAFT TAIL SECTION IS BLUE. POST CRASH ENGINE EXAMINATION FOUND A DETACHED AIR INTAKE PIPE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

Probable cause: The pilot's failure to abort the takeoff after the airplane failed to achieve adequate airspeed on the takeoff roll for undetermined reasons. This resulted in an abrupt pull up, inadvertent stall,…

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
