## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON SATURDAY, JUNE 3, 2006, AT APPROXIMATELY 1213 HOURS PDT, SOLO STUDENT PILOT, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, LANDING N4464P, A GROB G103 TWIN II GLIDER, AT CHRYSTAL AIRPORT (46CN), LLANO, CA, MADE A HARD LANDING, SEPARATING THE EMPENNAGE BY COMPLETELY SEVERING THE FUSELAGE AND CONTROL PUSH TUBES AT ITS NARROWEST, JUST FORWARD OF THE VERTICAL STABILIZER. THERE WERE NO INJURIES TO THE SOLO STUDENT PILOT, BUT, AS DESCRIBED, THE GLIDER SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX06CA189](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX06CA189), Jun 3, 2006: Burkhart Grob Flugzeugbau G103 Twin Astir (N4464P), Llano, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: the student pilot's failure to recover from a porpoise/pilot induced oscillation, which resulted in a hard landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
