## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) DURING A 100 HOUR INSPECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT, THE OIL DRAIN PLUG WAS REMOVED AND A QUICK DRAIN WAS INSTALLED. THIS QUICK DRAIN WAS LONG ENOUGH TO BE CONTACTED BY THE NOSE WHEEL WHEN THE LANDING GEAR WAS RETRACTED, CAUSING THE ENGINE OIL TO DRAIN OUT OF THE ENGINE DURING OPERATION. WHILE CONDUCTING FLIGHT INSTRUCTION WITH THE AIRCRAFT, THE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR NOTICED A LOW OIL PRESSURE CONDITION AND EXECUTED AN EMERGENCY LANDING INTO ROUGH TERRAIN. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE, BUT THE OCCUPANTS WERE NOT INJURED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX06CA191](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX06CA191), Jun 4, 2006: Piper PA-28R-200 (N4438T), Alpine, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: a loss of engine power due to the aviation maintenance technician's failure to install the correct oil sump quick drain, which resulted in the inadvertent draining of engine oil during flight.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
