(-23) THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DA^ WAS ON DOWNWIND TO THE BROWNWOOD AIRPORT (KBWD) WHEN THE ENGINE QUIT. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DA^ WAS UNABLE TO GET THE ENGINE RESTARTED AND MADE AN EMERGENCY LANDING IN AN AREA APPROXIMATELY 1/2 MILE FROM RWY 17. THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK A TREE DURING THE APPROACH AND CAME TO REST APPROXIMATELY 50 FEET FROM THE OBSTRUCTION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DFW06CA160](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DFW06CA160), Jun 10, 2006: Piper PA-28-151 (N5963F), Brownwood, TX, substantial damage. Probable cause: The loss of engine power for undetermined reasons. A contributing factor was the lack of suitable terrain for the forced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
