## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) N7579U, A CESSNA 150M, PILOTED BY STUDENT PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA ^ DEPARTED GREENSBORO SOUTHEAST AIRPORT (3A4), GREENSBORO, NC ENROUTE TO SHELBY MUNICIPAL AIRPORT (EHO), SHELBY, NC. AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MILES FROM SHELBY THE AIRCRAFT LOST ENGINE POWER AND MADE AN EMERGENCY LANDING ON SULFER SPRINGS ROAD, CLEVELAND COUNTY, NEAR PATTERSON SPRINGS, NC. THE PILOT HAD TO DODGE AN ONCOMING AUTOMOBILE AND THE LEFT WING STRUCK A TREE CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO SPIN AND CRASH, COMING TO REST IN THE DITCH ALONGSIDE SULFER SPRINGS ROAD, 1/10 OF A MILE FROM HAMRICK ROAD INTERSECTION. UPON INSPECTION OF THE AIRCRAFT AT THE SCENE, NO FUEL COULD BE FOUND IN EITHER TANK OF THE CESSNA. NO LEAKS WERE NOTED, NO SMELL OF FUEL OR VISIBLE SIGNS OF SPILLAGE, AND GAS CAPS WERE SECURE. THE AIRCRAFT APPARENTLY LOST ENGINE POWER DUE TO FUEL STARVATION. THE AIRCRAFT WAS MOVED FROM THE SCENE VIA POLICE ESCORT ON A ROLLBACK TRUCK TO SHELBY MUNICIPAL AIRPORT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ATL06CA092](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ATL06CA092), Jun 13, 2006: Cessna 150M (N7579U), Shelby, NC, substantial damage. Probable cause: The student pilot's improper preflight inspection and his failure to refuel the airplane resulting in fuel exhaustion and subsequent loss of engine power.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
