## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AIRCRAFT WAS OBSERVED (BY LOCAL RESIDENTS NEAR VA18) CIRCLING VA18 AT A LOW ALTITUDE DUE TO CEILING AND VISIBILITY. AFTER COMPLETING THE SECOND CIRCLE, THE AIRCRAFT WAS OBSERVED HEADING ON A SOUTHEASTERLY COURSE (AWAY FROM VA18) IN A BANK. THE AIRCRAFT IMPACTED THE TERRAIN APPROXIMATELY 3/4 OF A MILE SOUTHEAST OF VA18.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC06FA145](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC06FA145), Jun 14, 2006: Raytheon B36TC (N202EN), North Garden, VA, destroyed, 2 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain airspeed while turning onto the final approach, which resulted in an inadvertent stall/spin and subsequent impact with terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
