## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON 06/21/2006 AT APPROXIMATELY 1706 HOURS EST, THIS AIRCRAFT LANDED ON RUNWAY 29 AND HPN AIRPORT AND AFTER LANDING OVERRAN THE RUNWAY AND CAME TO REST ON ITS NOSE INTO A RAVINE. THE PILOT EXITED THE AIRCRAFT WITHOUT INJURY. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. THE PILOT INDICATED THAT HE WAS COMPLETING A 150 NAUTICAL MILE SOLO CROSS COUNTRY. HE INDICATED THAT THE WINDS WERE 14 KNOTS, BUT HE DID NOT REMEMBER WHAT DIRECTION THE WINDS WERE FROM. HE SET FLAPS TO 20 DEGREES AND THE AIRSPEED WAS IN THE WHITE ARC. AS THE PILOT APPROACHED RUNWAY 29, HE INDICATED THAT HE WAS TOO HIGH. THE PILOT SIPPED THE AIRCRAFT TO HELP LOSE ALTITUDE. HE APPROACHED THE RUNWAY, FLARED AND BRAKED. HE CONTINUED TO ROLL PAST THE RUNWAY AT A SLOW SPEED AND WENT INTO THE RAVINE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC06CA159](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC06CA159), Jun 21, 2006: Cessna 172S (N968SP), White Plains, NY, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's misjudged speed/distance which resulted in an overrun.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
