## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) EXCERPTS FROM THE PILOT INTERVIEW: THE PILOT STATED THAT HE DEPARTED CHINO, CA ENROUTE TO DESTINATION, LONG BEACH, CA. WHEN HE WAS HANDED OFF FROM SO CAL APPROACH TO LGB TOWER, HIS ALTITUDE WAS HIGH SO HE MAINTAINED POWER AND LOWERED THE NOSE FOR A RAPID DESCENT, WENT THROUGH THE STANDARD GUMPS (GAS, UNDERCARRIAGE, MIXTURE, PROPS, SAFETY) CHECK, HOWEVER HE WAS TOO FAST IN AIRSPEED TO LOWER THE GEAR SO HE OMITTED THE "U" UNTIL HE LOST MORE AIRSPEED. LGB ASKED HIM TO SLOW DOWN MORE AND THAT HE WAS NUMBER 2 FOR LANDING, HE STARTED DOING "S" TURNS FOR SPACING AND WHEN IT WAS HIS TURN TO LAND, HE NEVER RETURNED TO THE GUMPS CHECK AND FORGOT TO PUT THE LANDING GEAR DOWN. THE LANDING GEAR WAS UP AND LOCKED AT THE TIME OF LANDING. WHEN THE AIRCRAFT WAS RAISED OFF OF THE SURFACE DURING THE RECOVERY OF THE AIRCRAFT, THE LANDING GEAR LOWERED NORMALLY AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS LOWERED ONTO THE GROUND WITH THE LANDING GEAR EXTENDED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
