## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE AIRCRAFT TOOK OFF AND MADE A RIGHT TURN. WHILE IN THE RIGHT TURN THE ENGINE SPUTTERED AND QUIT AT APPROXIMATELY 50 FEET ABOVE THE TREES. NO CLEARING AVAILABLE, THE PLANE STRUCK THE TREES AND ULTIMATELY CAME TO REST ON THE GROUND INVERTED. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF FUEL LEAKAGE FROM EITHER WING TANK OR THE FUEL LINES TO THE ENGINE. UPON FURTHER EXAMINATION AT THE CRASH SITE, NO FUEL WAS FOUND IN THE LEFT WING TANK AND SOME FUEL WAS FOUND IN THE RIGHT WING TANK. THE PILOT REPORTED THE FUEL SELECTOR WAS SELECTED TO THE RIGHT WING TANK.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ATL06LA099](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ATL06LA099), Jul 1, 2006: Cessna 172H (N8084L), Ringgold, GA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's improper fuel management resulting in a total loss of engine power due to fuel starvation resulting in a forced landing, and collision with trees and the ground.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
