## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE STUDENT PILOT, OCCUPYING THE LEFT SEAT, WAS PRACTICING TAKEOFFS AND LANDINGS AT JEFFERSON CITY MEMORIAL AIRPORT (JEF), IN JEFFERSON CITY, MISSOURI, UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF A CERTIFICATED FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR IN THE RIGHT SEAT. ON THE SECOND LANDING, HE FLARED PREMATURELY (TOO HIGH) AND MAINTAINED A LANDING PITCH ATTITUDE WHILE ALLOWING THE AIRCRAFT TO DRIFT TO THE RIGHT, OFF THE RUNWAY'S HARD SURFACE, WITH THE THROTTLE AT IDLE. THE INSTRUCTOR TOOK CONTROL OF THE AIRCRAFT, LOWERED THE PITCH, AND ADDED POWER, WHILE CORRECTING TO THE LEFT TOWARD THE RUNWAY HARD SURFACE. DURING THE CORRECTION, STILL AIRBORNE, THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK ONE HIGH INTENSITY RUNWAY EDGE LIGHT, CAUSING MINOR DAMAGE TO THE RUNWAY LIGHT. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED DAMAGE TO THE LOWER LEFT FIREWALL AND THE UNDERSIDE OF THE LEFT WING.
