## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED RIFLE, CO. WITH BOTH FUEL TANKS HALF FULL. AFTER FLYING APPROXIMATELY 1.5 HOURS, A FULL STOP LANDING WAS MADE AT MONTROSE, CO. ON RUNWAY 31. THE AIRCRAFT THEN DEPARTED AND REMAINED IN THE PATTERN. WHILE TURNING FROM DOWNWIND TO BASE LEG THE ENGINE LOST POWER. THE AIRCRAFT CRASHED HEADING APPROXIMATELY 110 DEGREES, 2 MILES AWAY FROM RUNWAY 31. THE AIRCRAFT CRASHED THROUGH SEVERAL TREES ON A HEADING 110 DEGREES AND IMPACTED A PARKED SEMI TRUCK CAB. THE LANDING GEAR WAS RETRACTED AND THE FLAPS WERE FULLY EXTENDED. WITNESSES STATED THAT THE ENGINE WAS NOT MAKING POWER. THE AIRCRAFT WAS CONSUMED BY POST CRASH FIRE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DEN06FA091](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DEN06FA091), Jul 3, 2006: Beech A36TC (N1800Z), Montrose, CO, destroyed, 2 fatal. Probable cause: the pilot's inadequate preflight planning/decision by not having the airplane refueled prior to takeoff, and allowing the engine to be starved of fuel because he failed to switch the fuel selector…

## Other reports on N1800Z (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19820721041349I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19820721041349I), Jul 21, 1982: Beech A36TC (N1800Z), Watsonville, CA, Minor damage. Raised gear instead of flaps on landing roll. Nose and left main gear retracted.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
